Dr. Cosimo Marco Scarcelli

 

Dr. Cosimo Marco Scarcelli is chair of the Gender & Communication section at ECREA. He is lecturer of Sociology of Digital Media at IUSVE (Venice) and adjunct professor in Sociology of media at University of Padova. De is member of Pa.S.T.I.S (Padova Science, Technology and Innovation Studies – University of Padova http://www.pastis-research.eu/?lang=en). He works as a digital media educator in collaboration with different institutions and NGOs.

In 2013 he successfully defended his doctoral thesis on adolescents’ use of the Internet relating to love and sexuality. His research deals with youth studies, social construction of gender, sexuality and intimacy, the connection between sexuality, gender and media, internet studies and digital literacy. He is particularly interested in qualitative and participatory research. He has published in Porn Studies, Interdisciplinary Journal of Family Studies and other Italian and International journals.

Dr. Despina Chronaki

 

Dr. Despina Chronak is vice-chair of the Gender & Communication section at ECREA. Her research is mainly focused on audiences of popular culture, sexuality and childhood. She has a specific interest in childhood and sexuality, upon which she pursued her doctoral research under the supervision of Prof. David Buckingham. Currently she is a teaching and research fellow in Cyprus University of Technology (Communication and Internet Studies Faculty) and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece) (Faculty of Communication and Media Studies). Since 2007 she has been collaborating with top researchers in EU funded European (EU Kids Online I, II, III,IV), National (Greek) (GR Kids Go Online 2008-2009; Greek Porn Project, 2011-2013) and International (The World Hobbit Project, 2013- present; Game of Thrones Project, 2016-present) projects. She has been invited to present her work in domestic, European and International conferences and meetings. Her interests also include cultural approaches to audiences, celebrity studies and sexual citizenship.

Florian Vanlee

 

Florian Vanlee is the representative of young ECREA. His research focuses on the representation of sexual and gender diversity on television, with a specific interest in domestic television fiction in Flanders, the Dutch-speaking northern region of Belgium. He is currently pursuing a PhD on the subject, under the supervision of Prof. Sofie Van Bauwel and Prof. Frederik Dhaenens at Ghent University. Together with his supervisors, he has published in Television & New Media, the European Journal of Cultural Studies and the Catalan Journal of Communication and Cultural Studies. Besides studying Flemish LGBT+ televisibility with a qualitative, textual methods, he uses quantitative research and expert interviews to explore the subject multimethodologically.
